The objective of this analysis was to incorporate measures of media coverage in models of the general contagion of mass public shootings. The analysis also explores how--although there does not appear to be short-term contagion linked to newspaper and television coverage of mass shootings--a different form of contagion associated with the social climate of fear may be much more pervasive and powerful.
