Many people take out student loans to pay for college. Student loans put millions of Americans in debt. They can be difficult to pay off. Black students are more likely to have larger debts and not be able to pay their loans. Student loans can also negatively affect the economy. This is because fewer people will buy homes and start businesses. The Department of Education currently has the power to cancel student debt.
