Some jobs require people to have a state license to do their job, including nurses, teachers, and construction workers. A common requirement to get a state license is to pass a criminal background check, which means that in many states, people with a criminal record cannot get certain jobs, regardless of how qualified they are. Removing occupational licensing barriers would expand equal opportunity hiring.
