The federal government helps some people do their taxes for free. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) helps people submit their taxes. They provide support to people that are low-income and older adults. This support is also for people with disabilities and people whose first language is not English. Over 3 million people do their taxes with VITA's support each year. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) estimates that there are 19 million individuals and families that could use this service if it was more available.
