Employees are not always paid equitably. Women earn only 82 cents for every dollar white men earn. For women of color, the pay gap is even worse. Black women earn 62 cents and Latinas earn 54 cents for every dollar white men earn. Businesses should pay equal wages for equal work. Some countries, like Iceland, France, and Canada, passed laws to require this. The Paycheck Fairness Act is an example of proposed federal pay equity legislation.
